Didsbury Good Neighbours Art Workshops
In March 2024, Manchester Baroque was delighted to collaborate with Didsbury Good Neighbours for a unique series of art workshops that brought music and visual art together in an inspiring and interactive way. Led by art teacher Trae England-Shortt, members of the Good Neighbours community group engaged in a creative process where music and art merged seamlessly. In the first workshop, artists listened to live music performed by Manchester Baroque musicians and translated these auditory experiences into visual artwork.
In a playful exchange reminiscent of "Chinese whispers," musicians then returned in a later session to respond to the artists' paintings, using improvisation to interpret and reimagine the visuals through music. This exchange highlighted the fluid relationship between music and visual art, creating a vibrant dialogue between the two mediums.
The resulting artwork, accompanied by QR codes linking to details about the creative process, was proudly displayed after Manchester Baroque’s Good Friday 2024 performance of Bach's St Matthew Passion, allowing concertgoers to explore the art and learn more about this community-driven project.
